LIBERAL Democrat councillors say they will urge North Yorkshire County Council to put pressure on DEFRA and the Environment Agency to approve flood defences for Ripon.

At a council meeting on Wednesday, Coun Bernard Bateman will propose a motion asking the organisations to reinstate the flood defence project.

Coun Bateman said: "The county council needs to speak up for residents of Ripon and demand that DEFRA and the Environment Agency put their plans into action."

Local flood defences campaigner Mike Deeming will also address members of the council at the meeting.
