Traders will be setting their stalls out on Ripon Market Square.

Ripon's independent traders are preparing to set out their stalls on the city's market square to showcase what they have to offer.

The first ever 'Independents' Day' is designed to draw attention to the wide variety of independent traders in the city and its surrounding area. The event is being organised by the newly-formed Ripon Independent Traders Association (RITA), part of the Ripon Area Business Association. RITA's members include many of the city's more individual businesses, including cafés and restaurants, accessories and clothes shops, galleries, electrical suppliers and office equipment suppliers. Many of them will be taking a stand on the Square on July 7 to show city residents and visitors the array of different businesses that Ripon has to offer. Plans are still being finalised, but there are likely to be free food and wine tastings and competitions, as well as a chance to see what the different traders have to offer. Anthony Blackburn of RITA says: "Everyone in RITA believes that Ripon's independent businesses are what help to give the city its individuality, and we are keen to let everyone know what we have for them. "Independents' Day promises to be a great showcase for us, and we would welcome enquiries for other independent businesses in Ripon and the surrounding area who may like to join us."
